Master Gunnery Sergeant Darell E. Eley

Master Gunnery Sergeant Eley hails from Norfolk, Virginia and enlisted in the Marine Corps July 24, 1995. Upon  completion of recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Johnson North Carolina.

In November 1995, Private First Class Eley attended the Naval Corrections School at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where he received the Corrections MOS. Upon completion, he was transferred to Quantico, Virginia where he served at the MCB Quantico Brig in various billets that included Escort, Squad Bay Supervisor, Control Center Supervisor, Mess Deck Supervisor, Special Quarters NCO, Receiving & Release NCO, and Watch Supervisor. During this tour, Private First Class Eley was interviewed
and accepted as the MCCDC Sergeant Major’s driver. He was promoted to Lance Corporal and returned to the Brig upon completion of his duties.

In 1999 upon completion of his first enlistment, Sergeant Eley received orders to Great Lakes, Illinois where he served as a Cross Country Chaser.

Sergeant Eley executed orders again in 2004 to the MCB Brig in Quantico and served as the Senior Counselor. During his tour, Sergeant Eley was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Eley received orders to the MCB Brig in Camp Lejeune in 2008 where he served as the Duty Brig Supervisor. In May of that year, Staff Sergeant Eley deployed in support OIF as the SNCOIC of the Al Asad Regional Detention Facility. Upon his return, Staff Sergeant Eley resumed his duties as the Duty Brig Supervisor at the Camp Lejeune Brig. In 2009, Staff Sergeant Eley was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Eley executed orders to Headquarters Marine Corps, Plans, Policies & Operations, Security Division, Law Enforcement & Corrections Branch where he served as the Support Chief/MC Victim Witness Coordinator. During this time, he received temporary orders to Wounded Warrior East and served as a platoon commander in the Bethesda Naval Hospital. Upon completion, he returned to PSL Corrections and served as the new Marine Corps Absentee Collection Unit SNCOIC.

Gunnery Sergeant Eley was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant in 2015 and received orders to the MCB Brig in Camp Pendleton, California where he served as the Programs Officer/Operations Chief. Upon completion of his tour, Master Sergeant Eley received orders to Iwakuni, Japan where he served as the Brig Officer for the Iwakuni Brig. While there in 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Eley executed orders to Headquarters Marine Corps, Plans, Policies & Operations, Security Division, Law Enforcement & Corrections Branch in 2020. After realignment under DC I&L in June 2022, he currently serves as the Headquarters Corrections Operations Chief.

Master Gunnery Sergeant Eley holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and Corrections from Park University with distinction and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University with distinction. 
Master Gunnery Sergeant Eley’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th award).
