Mr. Abel Galaviz


Mr. Galaviz enlisted in the Marine Corps in December 1983 and attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. After graduation, he attended the Basic Corrections Course at Lackland, A.F.B., San Antonio, TX where he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal. He then reported to Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA., for duty at the Base Brig as a Correctional Specialist. During his tour he served in a variety of security billets and was meritoriously promoted to both Corporal and Sergeant. 
                                                                                                                        
In October 1986, Sergeant Galaviz reenlisted and received orders to Recruiters School at MCRD San Diego, CA. and upon graduation, reported to Recruiting Station Seattle, Washington. During his three year tour he served as a Canvassing Recruiter and Military Entrance Processing Station Liaison with Recruiting Sub-Station Spokane, Washington. In March of 1990, after a successful tour, he was transferred to the Marine Detachment, Fort Leavenworth, KS., for duty at the United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) where he served as a correctional specialist on the guard force and in the Maximum Security Area.

In February 1992, Sergeant Galaviz was appointed a Warrant Officer and attended the Warrant Officer Basic Course, at The Basic School in Quantico, VA. Upon graduation, he reported to HQMC (M&RA) Corrections Branch, for duty as the Officer in Charge, Marine Corps Absentee Collection Unit. He was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer -2 in August of 1993. 

In June 1996, Chief Warrant Officer-2 Galaviz was transferred to Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA for duty as a Corrections Officer at the Base Brig.  While there he served as the Brig Administration Officer, Executive Officer, Security Officer, Industries Officer and Brig Officer. In June of 1999 he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer-3.

In June 2000, he was transferred to the Marine Corps Detachment, Lackland A.F.B., TX., where he served as the Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Detachment and Director, Naval Corrections Academy. In June 2002, he was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer-4. 

In January 2004, he was transferred to Marine Corps Base, Quantico, VA where he served as Company Commander and Commanding Officer of the Base Brig. 

In August 2006, he was transferred to HQMC (PP&O) to serve as the Head, Marine Corps Corrections. He was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer-5 in December 2006. 

In April, 2013, he retired from the Marine Corps and accepted a position as a contractor supporting the Law Enforcement, Investigations, and Corrections Branch at HQMC. 

In March 2020, he accepted a position as the Deputy, Corrections Section, Law Enforcement, Investigations and Corrections Branch, Plans, Policies and Operations (Security). 

Mr. Galaviz’ personal decorations include the: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and  Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
