GySgt Frederick Roethler III
Frederick J Roethler III was born in St. Charles, Missouri and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 2010. He attended Recruit Training aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Deigo and graduated in September 2010 from Kilo Company Platoon 3235. Private Roethler was promoted to Private First Class out of boot camp. In August 2010 Private First Class Roethler graduated from Marine Combat Training aboard Camp Pendleton and was awarded a Meritorious Mast for graduating in the top 5 in his class. Continuing to his MOS training to Ft Leonard Wood Missouri, at the Marine Corps Basic Military Police Course. In March of 2011 Private First Class Roethler was promoted to Lance corporal. Upon graduation from the Basic Military Police Course, Lance Corporal Roethler was selected to attend Basic Handler Course for Military Working Dogs. Lance Corporal Roethler Attended Basic Handlers Course at Joint Air Force Base San Antonio, Texas. He graduated in September of 2011 and was awarded Top Dog for his course. He was assigned his first duty station at 2nd MP Support Company under 2 MEFF, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While assigned to 2nd MP Support, Lance Corporal Roethler was assigned to Military Working Dog (MWD) Kito, a Patrol Explosive Detection Dogs (PEDD). He attended K9 pre-deployment school in Yuma Arizona in April 2012. He then deployed to Afghanistan in May of 2012. While in Afghanistan Lance Corporal Roethler was attached to MARSOC Marine special Operations Team MSOT 8131. Lance Corporal Roethler assigned duties while attached to the MSOT was to lead patrols and search for Improvised Explosive devises (IED) with MWD Kito. LCpl Roethler was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Metal with Valor for actions on a mission in June of 2012, He was also awarded a Combat action Ribbon (CAR). LCpl Roethler and MWD Kito Returned home from Deployment in October of 2012. In March of 2013 LCpl Roethler was Promoted to Corporal (CPl). He was then assigned to MWD Sirius who was also a PEDD. In October of 2013 CPl Roethler attended K9 pre-deployment school in Yuma Arizona. In January of 2014 CPl Roethler Left for a deployment attached to the 22 MEU out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. While on the MEU CPl Roethler and MWD Sirius conducted Mission is Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Kuwait. During the deployment CPl Roethler worked hand and hand with United State Army special forces 5th Group out of Ft Bragg, North Carolina. CPl Roethler and MWD Sirius returned from deployment in September 2014. In March 2015 CPl Roethler was Promoted to Sergeant. He then PCS’d to Marine Corp Air station Beaufort, South Carolina. While stationed at MCAS Beaufort Sgt Roethler was the Chief trainer for the K9 section and responsible for the training, advancement and overall welfare of 11 MWD’s. In April of 2017 Sgt Roethler attended Selection for MARSOC Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC). Sgt Roethler was selected. In May of 2017 Sgt Roethler PCS’s to Stone Bay, North Carolina. In June of 2017 Sgt Roethler Started his pipeline to become a Multi-Purpose Canine Handler for MARSOC. He attended STC Special operation Forces (SOF), SERE Full Spectrum, Phase 1 MPC, and Phase 2 MPC. Sgt Roethler was paired and assigned to Multi-Purpose Canine Jay during his Pipeline. Sgt Roethler Graduated in January 2018 and became a 8071 Special Operations Capability Specialist Dog Handler (SOCS-D). In June of 2018 Sgt Roethler was Promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSgt). In June of 2018 SSgt Roethler and MPC Jay Deployed to Jordan with MSOT 8213. SSgt Roethler assigned duties while attached to the MSOT was to lead patrols and search for Improvised Explosive devises (IED). SSgt Roethler was also in charge of training the Jordan Special Forces working dogs while deployed. SSgt Roethler returned from deployment in March of 2019. SSgt Roethler was attached to MSOT 8313 in April of 2019, He deployed to Somalia in September 2019. His assigned duties while attached to the MSOT was to lead patrols and search for Improvised Explosive devises (IED) with MPC Jay. He was awarded a Navy and Marine Corp Commendation metal under Combat conditions for actions during the deployment along with his Second CAR. He returned from deployment in March 2020. He was assigned to MSOT 8342 in July 2020. In January of 2021 SSgt Roethler and MPC Jay deployed to Mosul Iraq. SSgt Roethler assigned duties while attached to the MSOT was to lead patrols and search for Improvised Explosive devises (IED). He returned from deployment in July 2021. MPC Jay was retied in January 2022. He was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps commendation metal with star in leu of third award for his actions while serving as a MPC handler for MARSOC teams around the world. In March 2022 he PCS’d to Marine Corp Air Ground Combat Center 29 Palms, where he was the Kennel Master for the K9 section for the Provost Marshals office. In August 2023 SSgt Roethler was Promoted to Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt). He is now the Assistant Operations Chief for the Provost Marshals Office. GySgt Roethler has a FiancĂ© Tayler, one child Jason (11), and two dogs, one Retired MPC Jay, and 1 chunky mutt named Franklin.
